WHAT DO YOU WEAR TO GEN CON? PART ONE.

Sunday, June 24, 2012

If your a girl. Going to Gen Con, who cares about fashion you may look about on the interwebs for "WHAT TO WEAR TO GEN CON".
and you know what you'll find?

Gen Con costumes
This from Metromix.

I love it. It's awesome.
But it's oh so not what I'm about to wear.

Here's the real deal ladies.
You're the minority.
You will be there with maybe out of the 15,000 people maybe 5,000 might be women.
MAYBE
And though most of us won't care what you're wearing if it's not a costume
I'm still going to give you some fashion ideas.

I live here in Indy.
I don't know if you've been here or not, and even if you HAVE been here your whole life, you'll understand quickly that in August, in downtown Indianapolis means that it can be literally ANY type of weather in the world. Last year it was record highs. This year? Who knows. It can be 100degrees, or like 2.

So i'm giving you some ideas to play with. If you're packing clothes because you're traveling here, bring a mix of things.

Play Hooky
bag from Jump From Paper

Charmander TOMS

any shoes from TOMS work well for walking all over the downtown area.
or get crazy and get some custom ones from the likes of  Gcordes55
they had some cool ones I liked.
Honestly, you can just type in Custom Toms into Etsy and find ANYTHING.
They aren't ALL legit Toms, if thats an issue for you, but they're pretty awesome. And your feet will look awesome.

I found these people through amillion different sources.
GeekChicCosmetics is their name.
Paiting your face awesome is their game.
They are awesome. If you want a far out uuber serious pigment on your face, they're the ones to go to.

Okay so now that we've got the accessories some what out of the way
[don't worry, I loved looking for the accesories so much there will be MANY MORE posts for this I promise!!]
lets play dress up shall we?!

There's always the cosplay route.
and in those cases here are some cool blogs I like to look at:
cosplay tumblr. it's pretty nifty.
women of cosplay. this one is about comic book characters.
and
your cosplay sucks. which is more of a how to-in reverse.

But lets say you don't want to stand out.
I don't. I can't blame you. I mean, dudes, it may be like really awesome, and I think I still may change my mind on this, but I don't like doing things half-way. It's all the way, or no way. And this year? I have a baby coming with me. So I'm thinking some cool looking top, some shorts or jeans and I'll be good to go.

I AM BATMAN

this is a pretty basic outfit for me. Long skirt. Fun shirt. Sandals. To say that I won't wear this ONE of the 4 days at Gen Con will be the biggest lie I'll ever write. To be honest? I'm sort of thinking of buying this EXACT outfit. I mean, BATMAN!!!

also? I like yellow.

[don't get on me about how Gen Con is about gaming and Batman isn't exactly a game, because A) Arkham Asylum. and B) who wears actual game shirts to a gaming convention?]

[note the sarcasm in that last line........i'm going to be wearing pokemon everyday probs. in protest to them not having a GEN ONE/NOT JUST BLACK AND WHITE event.....next year folks!!]

anyways.
the shirt is from ThinkGeek. Click the link on the side to go there, because well that why it's there folks. They have alot of other cool shirts and such there too. Don't let me stop you from going another route with this.

The skirt and sandals are from Forever 21. Why? Because they're on the cheaper side, without being ugly. And because that is what I like right now. Cheap, but not ugly.

STAR WARS STYLE

so this one is another little diddy I made up for you. If I were packing clothes for this, I would try to bring as many t-shirts as possible, being that it'll be really hot, and you'll probably get sweaty and gross.

But I'd also bring a lot of outfits that can mesh well together, or you can use whole pieces again if you so chose. Like these sandals? I put them in the one above. Because who wants to pack like 80 pairs of shoes when you have so many other things you need to bring? And you could even switch out the shirts if you wanted to wear all yellow, or all black tones. I know, I know. Pure genius.

Blue Pants!!! Blue Pants!!!

Monki oversized top, €35
Mango peter pan collar blouse, £28
Top, $21
Warehouse high waisted pants, $27
Big Buddha cage shoes, $49
Olsenboye high heel sandals, $30
TOMS cream flat, $48
Helene Jewelry fuschia jewelry, $38
Chain ring, $5
Hello Kitty "I Heart Nerds" Glasses, $4.99

This is what I would wear to Gen Con in my dreams. If I had all the time and money to get everything on here I would so fast.  If i could be one of those girls who could wear jeans in August while holding a baby and not being a sweat monster, i would be the happiest of happy girls ever.

But alas, none of that is true. So take my ideas and run with it. Because you know you think this is kinda cute too.

[There's more to come kids and people,
I'm trying to do this in Parts, so you don't get overwhelmed =)
Part two coming soon!]
